Day Z recent updates

Post by Admin on Tue Jun 26, 2012 12:50 pm

The most recent batch of hotfixes (1.7.1.3 to 1.7.1.5) were released in quick succession, and fixed an impressive number of bugs, and even added some new gameplay features.

– Players with helicopters were running into a bug where a leaking fuel tank couldn’t be repaired. This was fixed, and the leak will stop once the chopper is 95% repaired.

– Once you escape from infected and lose their line of sight, they’ll investigate the area where they last saw you and try and find you. They’re getting smarter.

– Audibility has been rebalanced, and infected no longer have super hearing. This makes it easier to sneak past them, but they’re still a lot tougher than before.

– General FPS improvements. A lot of server-side issues would severely hit players’ frame rates, regardless of their system specs, but this has been dealt with.

– Flashlights (the new starting ‘weapon’) can now be placed on the player’s toolbelt, meaning you won’t have to get rid of it if you pick up a pistol.

Day Z has been on a roll picking up new fans every day, and on June 25, DayZ hit 300,000 unique players. 1.7.2 is scheduled to be released soon.

Dogs coming to Day Z ?

Post by Admin on Mon Jul 09, 2012 1:11 pm

Dean ‘Rocket’ Hall has confirmed that dogs are coming to DayZ. He doesn’t mention what the dogs’ role will be in the game, but does confirm that the breed will be “German Shepherd.” Hall says that they’ve been planning to add dogs, but “there’s a problem with the implementation and there’s been so much more that’s been more pressing.” The dogs will arrive in a later patch, but the imminent 1.7.2 patch will give you a way to prepare: bear traps. They “break player and infected legs, kill animals when activated.” Ouch. The new feature doesn’t have a date but will hopefully arrive soon.

DayZ creator Dean “Rocket” Hall has been showing IGN his plans to bring dogs to DayZ. They’ll act as faithful companions that can track down animals and, eventually, will defend you from zombie attacks. The German Shepherd can be given orders, but the extent to which he’ll follow them depends on how experienced he is. A young dog will wander around trying to find you after 30 seconds if he’s not well trained.

Of course, owning a dog brings with it the possibility of losing it to the zombies, as horrible of a thought as that is. Their addition to DayZ will certainly change the game experience as we know it today.
