Gamescom News

Post by igoDrMacro on Tue Aug 14, 2012 10:56 am

Hey Guys,
I will try to keep you up to date with all the Gamescom news.

Valve:
The internet blew up this morning when a PDF file was found on the Gamescom website showing that Valve would be showing Half Life 3.
http://www.gamescom-cologne.com/media/gamescom/downloads/pdf/presse/Neuheitenliste.pdf
Unfortunately there has since been an update: Gamescom organizers characterized the listings for both Half-Life 3 and Dragon Age 3 as "a mistake".

Capcom: (TALK)
Capcom's big announcement at Gamescom is a brand new franchise from developer Dontnod called Remember Me. The game is scheduled for release in May 2013 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
The game is set in Neo-Paris during 2084. You play the role of Nilin, "a former elite memory hunter with the ability to break into people's minds and steal or even alter their memories." You're arrested and your memory is wiped clean. Players will have to rediscover her identity.

EA:
Registration for a closed SimCity beta will soon be opened, EA and Maxis announced during their Gamescom press conference. Also announcing that Origin and SimCity will be coming to Mac.

Sony:
At its Gamescom press conference, Sony detailed some new bonuses PlayStation Plus members can expect. Red Dead Redemption will be September's free game of the month. Users will also now have 1GB of cloud storage space (compared to the 150MB they have now). PlayStation Plus will be coming to the PlayStation Vita soon.

Sony has now unveiled the long-rumored game Until Dawn. Supermassive Games is working on the PlayStation Move-enabled survival horror game that seems to be mechanically based around the use of a flashlight. (TALK)

Sony also unveiled Rain, developed by Sony's Japan Studio. As a young boy you're working to save a little girl when you become invisible -- gameplay showed footsteps through puddles and the invisible boy bumping into things. However, when it rains, we can see the silhouette of the boy and then platform/puzzle solve his way through the world. Other creatures -- presumably enemies -- are also revealed by the rain. (TALK)

Sony and Media Molecule surprised everyone at the Sony press conference with a new property for Vita called Tearaway. It carries a similar creative, quirky vibe as the studio’s megahit series LittleBigPlanet, yet still manages to hold its own. The game stars a little paper man named Iota in a paper world and the player takes the role of a god character that can manipulate everything. (TALK)

Day Z:
DayZ mod creator Dean Hall is at Gamescom this week, and revealed that player-driven construction is in the works for the eventual stand-alone client. Hall says that the feature will probably take the form of underground bases accessed via portals. DayZ's stand-alone client will also feature a revamped Chernarus that features more buildings you can actually enter as well as more detail and "entirely new areas."

He also "really hopes" the game is successful enough to justify a console version. The only stumbling block is DayZ needs to be successful enough in order to justify a console version. "You're not going to put it on the consoles if you're only going to sell 100,000 units or something like that," he said. "DayZ will be driven by its PC development and it will innovative on that. And, once we're at a point, we'll take it and do a Mac version, 360 and PS3." Asked if he's met with any of the console developers, he immediately chimed back, "We're meeting with them here."

Blizzard has also announced that World of Warcraft’s next patch will make all races playable for all players, regardless of which version of the game they’ve purchased. This will include the new pandaren race, which will be selectable from the moment a player starts World of Warcraft even if they haven’t installed the Mists of Pandaria expansion.
“We want the entire World of Warcraft community to be able to embrace their inner goblin, blood elf, worgen, draenei, or pandaren from the moment they step foot into the world of Azeroth,” Blizzard said.
