The end of an era - Nintendo Power

Post by igoDrMacro on Wed Aug 22, 2012 4:40 pm

Nintendo has chosen not to renew its licensing agreement with Future Publishing (the company that currently produces Nintendo Power) and has no intentions to take over the publication itself. Editors and staff members were told some time last week, that the magazine would be shut down and have since begun transitioning to other Future publications. According to a report on the matter, Nintendo was "difficult to work with" and did little to help Future transition the magazine into the online era.

Nintendo Power originally launched in 1988, and was run in-house by Nintendo until the property was licensed to Future in 2007. Nintendo has confirmed that the December 2012 issue will be the magazine's last. What memories do you have of Nintendo Power?

What! Wow the days when you realize your getting old. I remember getting off the school bus everyday for a week knowing that the new Nintendo Power was going to be in that mail box soon! Collecting the power stamps for Phat Lewtz. Hanging the posters all over my bedroom. Still have them too. What a shame!

Had like 300 issues until a few months back, should have held on to them!

Just threw away my big box of old mags like last month. There were in the way and never looked through, but now I feel sad.

Just think Gentlemen this could be one of those things when we are 55-60 years old that will sell for lots of money.

As a tribute to Nintendo Power, RetroMags added the first 150 issues to its database. These are free of charge and are not to be resold. Check them out: http://www.retromags.com/forums/files/category/1-nintendo-power/
